Meets: School Hall, Woolworths Shopping Centre, Victor Harbor
Monthly (ex Jan): 1st Wednesday from 7.30 pm
The Encounter Bay Stamp Club had its beginnings in 1978 when Community Philatelic Society formed a branch club in Victor Harbor. Each month members from Edwardstown came down to assist with the running of the club by bringing circuit books and auction lots. Meetings were held in various locations over the years including the RSL Hall and TAFE rooms. In 1986 the Club was involved with the visit of the British and French ships, and again in 1997 when Congress was held at Goolwa.
At the end of 1999, the members from Edwardstown, who had supported the club for so many years, decided that they could not continue to travel down each month, so a choice had to be made to either disband the club altogether or reform as a new club. Early in 2000, a public meeting was called and the Encounter Bay Stamp Club was formed.
Club membership has never been more than about 25, but we regularly have lively meetings of between 15 and 18 members attending. We meet in the Old Schoolroom, which is located in the Woolworths car park in the centre of Victor Harbor.
Most members are happy to just collect whatever takes their fancy, but we have a number of members who have specific interests who put on interesting displays on a regular basis. We have circuit books available at our meetings, auctions of members’ surplus items, displays by members, and advice on collecting and looking after collections.
Our members are all in the senior age group, but younger people are very welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
